Short-Term Stay After Hospital Admission
Patients that have been admitted to a hospital for a minimum of three nights may have the option for a short-term stay in our center to receive 24-hour Nursing care and Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy up to seven-days each week. Patients may also request a short-term Respite in-patient stay for periods of a few days to several months.

In-Patient Residential Stay
Patients that require a permanent in-patient stay may be admitted from the Hospital, Assisted Living Facility or Home after receiving an admission order from their primary physician.

Specialty Programs

[review] => MY mother was in a motor vehicle accident and after her stay in the hospital she required more assistanceour family along with my mother decided Atlantic shores was a good fit due to the close proximity and the wonderful sraff that we spoke to numerous times as well as the cleanlyness of the facility every emplyee was kind courteous and respectful to every one in my family. This was an extremely difficult time all in our family so it was a huge deal that Atlantic shores stepped up and made such a positive caring impact.

[review] => My mother was there for about 6 weeks for rehab on a broken arm we visited almost daily.
Pros: facilities never smelly or dirty, though the decor is outdated. Nurses were friendly and attentive. We had one issue concerning choice of painkillers and it was addressed quickly. Communication from nursing admin was prompt and helpful. Food was regular and my mother's special diet was followed. There were lots of activities for residents to enjoy.
Cons: Administration understaffed outside of nursing. I would leave voice messages that were never returned. Unless I forced a face to face, nothing was handled in a timely manner. Even after discharge, was not given any information about what to expect next
Would it kill you to hire more administrative assistants?

My father did not give permission for my mother to be moved but they did without any care or concerns. My father was there at lunch time yesterday feeding my mom and they did not say anything while he was there. After he went home, they decided to call him and let him know that she was being moved-without permission! While she was there, they never gave her water, so she developed another UTI-which they were told about. Please stay away! DO NOT LEAVE ANY FAMILY MEMBER HER THAT CANNOT DEFEND THEMSELVES YOU WILL REGRET IT IN THE LONG RUN!
Yesterday this horrible place transported my mother to another facility without prior authorization to transport her. Then the facility told my father that I agreed! Nobody including me agreed to any transport to another facility. I have been in contact with an Ombudsman which will get another earful from me regarding the shady dealings from this establishment! As per US Code 1395i-3, a facility must permit each resident to remain in the facility and must not transfer or discharge the resident from the facility!
Stay FAR AWAY from this half-bait lying facility if you care about your loved ones!

[review] => My mother was discharged from AdventHealth in Orlando and ordered into rehabilitation. I selected Atlantic Shores for her and it was the best decision we could have made. Her physical therapy and occupational therapy were top-notch. The staff at Atlantic Shores was amazing. They kept us informed of her progress weekly. I cannot say one thing bad about the staff at Atlantic Shores, and would highly recommend this to anyone that needs rehabilitation from either surgeries or reg, gaining their strength to be back living a normal life.

[review] => My 96 year old mom has been on the assisted living roadshow in Brevard County for the past couple years. Of the 4 or 5 places she’s stayed at, Atlantic Shores is far and away the best in my opinion. Sure the sheets may be a little threadbare in spots, but I’d rather that and authentic loving care than marble floors and waiting 90 minutes for a requested diaper change (which ultimately led to a UTI and hospitalization with delerium at another facility with the initials MT).
I ❤️ Atlantic Shores! Thanks for taking such good care of my mama. And I can see an improvement in her core strength so the PT is working!

[review] => I'm writing this review after almost a year of working with the staff at Atlantic Shores to provide long-term care for my mother.
My mother entered Atlantic Shores in December of last year after a stint in the hospital. Originally this was supposed to be a short-term stay for physical therapy after surgery but the realization came quickly that my mother's many medical conditions were going to require long-term care.
Things were rough at first. Knowing such facilities can have a bad reputation I made a point of being present as often as I could and to open lines of communication with key members of the staff. I expressed my concerns and after some changes to key positions, including a new director and assistant of nursing, patient care improved drastically. I was able to build a relationship with the new management staff and explain our concerns about my mother's various medical issues. The staff took our concerns to heart and put together a plan to give her the best care they could provide. As a result my mother's condition improved dramatically.
In addition to our great experiences with the medical staff, I had a similar experience with the business office staff. After it became apparent that Mom was going to need long term care I began the process of handling the financial aspect of that care. The business office was exceedingly patient as I worked through complicated financial issues, more patient that they had to be. For that I am extremely grateful.
A year later my mother is still here and still receiving very good care. She loves the nurses and CNA's that take care of her regularly and frequently refers to them as her friends. The staff and I have built a quality working relationship and I trust them to take care of my mother.
The decision to choose a long-term care provider for a parent is an extremely difficult and stressful one to make. I know that the reviews for Atlantic Shores are mixed but I would suggest not making a decision based on reviews alone but to visit the facility, talk to the staff, and build a relationship with them. I know how difficult it is to administer good care to Dementia Patients from first hand experience, but i can honestly say that the staff do an excellent job in making that happen. The Nurses, CNA's, Office/Managerial staff all seem to work very hard and always respond professionally and in a friendly manner. I am grateful and pleased for their level of care.

[review] => I was transferred to this place from the hospital for some PT and rehab, and from the moment that I arrived I knew that I was in trouble. The hospital where I was at had sent all of the pertinent information of my transfer including medications needed, etc. Well, they made me and the ambulance people wait a while to put me in a room because according to them they were supposed to have any admissions. So after I was put in a room a very kind nursing assistant brought me some food since it was past dinner time and I was starving. In the evening I rang the bell asking for my medications and the rude nurse that came in said to me that my meds would not be there until Tuesday since this was Labor day weekend, I immediately got very concerned since my BP was very low, I suffer from Gran Mal seizures and also suffer from intractable pain, so that was definitely not acceptable. To make a super long story short, I had a seizure while there, fell of the bed, had one of my toe nails ripped due to I guess catching the nail on something during my seizure. After I came to and rang the bell, after a long while the nurse showed up with 2 Tylenol and when I mentioned my seizure and fall, she didn't care and left my room to never check on me again. At this point I wanted out of there! Well, the following shift showed up and some of my regular meds had come in and I was given those, but I was already uneasy and upset about the treatment that I had received on Saturday, that I definitely wanted out! Well by Monday I asked to be discharged against medical advice because I was receiving no care and I could do that at home. I called the Medicare complain line and started a case, because NO ONE should be treated so poorly at a supposed medical facility. I want to say that the head nurse came in on Sunday afternoon to try to help the situation and he was very professional and apologetic, but the damage had already been done and Monday I left to protect my mental well-being and health. I would not recommend this place at all!!

[review] => I just called to find out information about my aunt, bc I am her main contact and her son could not get information.Unfortunately she was no longer a patient, there, but I still needed information on how she left, where she went. I was transferred to Janice, the social worker or she may have actual been the therapist, but I was told I was be transferred to social services. I asked he some questions about my aunt, and right off the bat, she was extremely rude, and I almost hung up the phone and took it, but I'm glad I didn't. Unfortunately Janice is probably overworked and underpaid, but this is no excuse to treat people like garbage. She could not be quiet and let me speak. I finally had to speak over her and tell her how rude she is and teach her some customer service skills, which hopefully she'll take note next time when she is busy. This is for next time Janice, "I'm so sorry, but I am right in the middle of something, can I take your name and number and I will call you back." Or simply do not answer the phone at the moment, especially if you had a patient in hand. Instead of saying, I don't have time, for this, sighing heavily, and stating she'll just drop everything she's doing for me to help me, and constantly speaking over me to shut me down and continually telling me she is so busy. I hope this woman is never allowed around elderly patients because I would be extremely intimidated as an elderly person asking for her help. I hope there are some Ombudsman coming into this facility. It is sad our elderly have to deal with this, luckily I am young enough to handle this poor customer service on the phone, but imagine being an elderly partner calling about your spouse and you get Janice. I would be terrified to be sent here when I get older with her tone. Good Luck to that. Thanks Janice you are doing such a great service for our elderly and others in rehab. You are a pillar of society. Sadly Janice probably doesn't think she did anything wrong. And she will continue to be allowed to treat people like this.

[review] => This is a horrible place. My sister was admitted there to regain her strength after COVID. She constantly was complaining about lack of care. She called me at 4:45 am stating she is very nauseous and, that she cannot get anyones attention. There was a person that came into the room two times turned off the buzzer and left without treating her. My sister and I both try to call the front desk to no avail. She finally called the ambulance at 5:30 who gets there and takes her out in a matter of minutes. This is horrible treatment. I finally found another number to call, her nurse told me that she was about to go and see her when the ambulance arrived, that was 40 minutes after my sister called me. I also noticed a few days before when I visited her. A patient across the hall was calling out for help it took 45 minutes before anyone went in to her. I counted more than 12 people passed that woman’s room while she was calling out for help. This is very poor and seems to be the protocol. Now back to my sister I took the time to meet with administrator and dietician. We discussed my sisters need for a special diet meaning that her food has to be puréed. She never received the food prepared for her. Her son brought puréed food from home as she complained that she was not fed over the weekend. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I have pastored in this area for 20 years and I have gone to many nursing homes but this place will be one that I steer people away from. There are two things that was nice about the place. 1. No fowl smell 2. The dietary manager Lou was nice enough to bring a bunch of Ensure to my sister.

[review] => My grandmother returned today after being at this facility for respite care of 5 days. I was thoroughly appalled and disgusted at the condition at which she was returned home.
She still had on the same socks she wore the day she left. They are the yellow "fall risk " socks, however, the rubber grip was on the top of her foot and filthy.
She had on a Depends nighttime underwear which was so saturated with urine and smelled horrible. It was so old, the inner lining had broken apart and her clothes were soaked with urine. The weight of it was unbelievable. Her odor was so unbearable, that I immediately showered her.
A soiled daytime diaper was found in a bag of clean clothes we had sent her. Clothing sufficient for 5 days plus, however, only one outfit was used, which was filthy with food and she came home wearing it. 2 bags of nighttime and daytime underwear were included, but once again only a couple were used the 5 days she was there. She was also covered in bruises, for which I have taken photos and will be contacting the appropriate resources.
How heartless can these employees be to send her home that way and God only knows what happened to her there?
We trusted Atlantic Shores to take great care of her in our absence.
Perhaps they didn't have concern as my grandmother has early stages of dementia and they thought she wouldn't be able to tell us what happened. Shame on them and those who run Atlantic Shores. If I could have given them no stars I would have.

[review] => My mother in law was at this facility for end of life care as she was 99 with Alzheimer's. She was admitted quickly and Jamie, the Business Office Manager was a true caregiver in her ability to assist with all things financial, making recommendations and following up. The staff from the social worker to the nurses and nurses aids were always trying to find ways to make her comfortable and safe. She was only at the facility for 5 months but we are very happy that Atlantic Shores was able to take good care of her along with the loving and caring nurses from Vitas Hospice.

[review] => My loved one had a horrible stroke when having only a run of the mill 24 hour procedure! He was sent to a really bad rehab from Holmes Hospital at D/C due to bed availability! But thanks to Atlantic Shores Rehab staff he was moved to their facility quickly where he received much better overall care. Atlantic Shores is clean, the staff very friendly and attentive to Louie. Everyone I have met has tried very hard always to meet my needs as his family as well as my loved one's needs. They have blessed our lives....

My Father was in Atlantic for less than a year. His FEW belongings "went missing" one-by-one. Someone from there took a picture of his debit card and tried to use it online. He fell asleep with his checkbook nearby and a check was stolen. His hand-made Army watch was taken (right off his wrist). His personalized Purple Heart ring he earned for an injury during his two tours of duty in Korea.....gone.
The CNA's and nurses were either wonderful or CRUEL. When your loved one makes one of them angry....for any reason....God help your loved one. They don't forgive and they don't forget. Imagine someone being constantly cruel to your dying loved one and they are afraid to say anything for fear of making it worse? My father would get upset when certain employees were on duty, and now we know why. Finally, my hero Dad who earned a Bronze Star for Valor in Korea was saving money for a proper burial in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. Only when he passed did we discover every penny was gone. He made the mistake of trusting his caretakers. Don't make the same mistake. You have been warned. From a brokenhearted son.

[review] => What a profound change has occurred in Dad as he has been cared for by the excellent group of people at ATLANTIC SHORES. They know how, they listen, they care and they adjust treatments to achieve excellent results.
Dad was at a different rehab with devastating outcomes including harsh treatment, extreme weight loss and severe over medication. As soon as we transferred him to ATLANTIC SHORES he made an immediate turnaround; it was the difference between night and day.
Dad at 93 has been in rehab a few times and we have experienced many levels of care at different facilities. The people at ATLANTIC SHORES have earned my respect, appreciation and loyalty for how they have cared for Dad, the results he experienced and the professional way in which they take care of business.
Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart to each and every one of you. These include Jamie, Janice, Tisa, Kim and Ken in administration, Cravis the nurse manager, Larry the maintenance man, Red who took care of Dad's laundry, the cleaning crew who keeps the place sparkling clean, the kitchen crew who makes good meals and the Thanksgiving Dinner so beautiful, delicious and special, the wise and gentle CNAs who offered personal care and quietly sang favorite songs with him, sweet Hope who brings a smile to my face as she answers the phone promptly and always connects me efficiently to whomever I need to talk with, Dr. Hilbert Zeballos who took the time to listen and make changes, and every nurse, PT, OT and ST. Your professionalism, understanding, kind eyes and gentle ways set you apart from all the rest. Thank you. You are the very best and we are so grateful for each and every one of you.
After arriving at ATLANTIC SHORES, Dad quickly made a speedy recovery and now by God’s grace has moved into his new assisted living apartment and is doing very well. If you're in need of a rehab community, I highly recommend ATLANTIC SHORES and all the wonderful people there who make such an incredible difference.

[review] => Wild Bill entered AS on 4/4/19 in very fragile shape from a motorcycle accident: broken neck, back, hand and leg. Plus, he had lost one leg from the accident and was on a feeding tube! AS staff are angels. Rehab, nursing and admin were wonderful. He regained his swallow with speech therapy help. Physical and occupational therapy worked with him as piece by piece he healed and regained his strength. He left after 70 days smiling and able to walk with a walker on his new prosthesis. He continues to improve daily and hopes to soon be able to walk back in unassisted to say hello.

[review] => We love this facility! My mom has been here for 4 months. She started in rehab and is now in LTC. The therapist’s were top notch. Their care is all customized for your exact needs with friendly faces. She brags to me about the food which she loves. The staff is attentive and her needs are being met. She tells me she feels the nurses are very knowledge. We toured 4 places and this facility was clearly the best. If it is raining out, there are 2 places outside you can still go. One is a covered porch and the other is a large gazebo which can hold 8 people comfortably. I recommend this facility if your loved one is looking for rehab or LTC.

[review] => My dad is in this facility and we can’t wait to get him out!!! Most of the Staff is lazy and they are very understaffed!! Food is mostly inedible and there are times the meds are not given. Very unprofessional and rude staff.

[review] => Worst experience my mother has ever gone through. No one helps. You have to call the administrator for any results. This shouldn't be. My mother is suffering . She has been bleeding in her cathator all day with no one sending her to the hospital. I was told she would be in a room soon. She has been waiting for three hours. I have begged , pleaded, cried and almost had a nervous breakdown. This place has been fubar since day one. Never, never ,never send anyone you love there. Please!!!!!!

[review] => The staff only spends a very brief time with patients, thru laziness and/or understaffing. They pick and choose which tasks to perform, and when and if they get around to them. Administration is more concerned with protecting themselves than their residents. If you can't help yourself or speak up for yourself, you'll be left to rot.

Other issues that he's reluctant to speak up about for fear of getting worse treatment than he is.

REVIEWS
MY mother was in a motor vehicle accident and after her stay in the hospital she required more assistanceour family along with my mother decided Atlantic shores was a good fit due to the close proximity and the wonderful sraff that we spoke to numerous times as well as the cleanlyness of the facility every emplyee was kind courteous and respectful to every one in my family. This was an extremely difficult time all in our family so it was a huge deal that Atlantic shores stepped up and made such a positive caring impact.
